AAARRGH! It’s Talk Like a Pirate Day!

calicojack.jpg

The guys that made this up were playing raquetball at a park and started having more of a fun time by encouraging and poking fun at each other while talking in Pirate speak. Needless to say, millions of people are a little more silly, smile a little more, and have a little more fun for a few minutes today, thanks to them.

A goodbye to our summer

beach.jpg

So it’s pretty much the end of summer. Sure there will be a few more days in the 80’s or skies with no clouds even in Seattle but the cold is coming. I can feel it in the air. Many people don’t like to see the end of summer. I ithink to myself that they must not understand how great it is to stand on top of a snow covered peak. Or to land a new trick in the park or pow. gonna go daydreaming here. Anyway…I went and hiked down to the beach to say goodbye to the summer heat and sun. I say bring on the rain, the snow, the cold. I’m ready.

Nope we had nothing to do with this but are super excited about it. Just got to give my hat off to Jordan Judd for thinking it up. Kris was like a mentor to me and I will always be thankful for the time I had filming with him on the Wind-up projects.   Super excited to have him back making films on the snow…check it out…it’s free.<<<<<<

Today on the Bus

old man mitchell

So going on the bus today I decided to doodle this old man who’s last name might have been Mitchell. He was wearing an army jacket and I could still see a pair of dog tags under his t-shirt. I should of drawn his hands too. They were pretty gnarled up and had seen some serious action with tons of scars. He had a cool beard and an interesting halo of hair.

ASR and AGENDA are starting this week in San Diego…keep your eyes out for one MR. P. Benedicto who will be accepting any orders and inquiries at the shows…he will probably be floating close to the PUMA booth.

sketching…a little more intense than doodling

sketch 1

I was reading this great interview with an accomplished artist who called out those people that can’t draw proper but only work on the computer and nothing else. I used to spend 90% of my “art” time using my hands in our world. These days with the occupation I have I find myself spending close to 90% of my “art” time on the computer and really that last 10% is doodling random stuff and new apparel.

So after reading the interview I decided to start sketching again for 15-20 min every lunch period…everyday. Here’s a little sketch of a dude from my bus ride in the morning. He’s a busker who was hugging his guitar like it was holding him up. Sorry the picture was from my phone-camera so the res is a little low.

A good man is gone. R.I.P. Utah Phillips

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Utah Phillips was an amazing story teller and folk musician that made me think a little deeper about the ailments of society and life. There is a good bio/obituary in the LA times if you want to get to know him a little more. I highly recommend the album of his spoken word that Ani Difranco put together called “The Past Didn’t Go Anywhere” as a starting point.

I was hoping I could see him one more time before he left this existence. He put on an amazing show and could make me laugh and cry, sometimes in the same minute. Again I highly recommend listening to what this Santa Claus looking guy had to say. He had an amazing perspective on living that anyone could learn something from.

My ribs were amazing and the lentils were too.
I can’t believe Hector got his pictures up before I did!
